Possibility to avoid character limitation in comments (Ouroboros project Talks) #106

Each 'object comment' has a limitation of 140 characters. But there is an easy way how to avoid the limitation.

We, moderators use that possibility when linking FAQs or other posts as the links are sometimes longer than 140 characters so we didn't see that a problem but a cool feature until recently.

Recently it started being misused by 'anonymous' attackers for extremely long posts containing repetitive content like "We are anonymous. We dislike word counts. This is just a warning. Expect us. We are anonymous. We dislike word counts. This is just a warning. Expect us. We are anonymous. We dislike word counts. This is just a warning. Expect us. We are anonymous. We dislike word counts. This is just a warning...." etc.

https://talk.penguinwatch.org/#/subjects/APZ000fx2q other posts were reported and deleted, and they're to be seen under the PW 'moderation' page.

Well, how to avoid the limitation?

By using copy&paste function while not using keyboard shortcut but mouse pop-up menu paste function (when you click right mouse button and choose the option 'paste' instead of pressing ctrl+v in the text field).

Is there a way to make the character limit work even for mouse pop-up pasting? We don't see another way how to avoid those attack from happening. Although it would be nice to be able to make longer posts when linking FAQs :/.

Thanks!

This is a bug in the comment form in zooniverse/Talk, which only updates the counter on key presses. Unfortunately, that code isn't maintained any more.
