Support "unmatched" subfolders in library #549

Feature description

Hello!

Lovely work :-) I'd like to request a feature if I can.

So my root is fine I have a Downloads folder in it that Kyoo ignores, and things are moved out of that when ready and into other subfolders depending on type;

  1. Movie
  2. Series
  3. Documentary
  4. Youtube
  5. Personal
  6. Other

The problem is the last 3. Those folders contain videos I've ripped from youtube, personal videos of friends and family from phones and old cam corders etc, and other uncategorizable stuff.

None of the videos I put in these last 3 folders are matchable to anything, so Kyoo just errors on them and prints the messages in the admin panel and system logs like it should.

I want to request a feature where files in these folders are put into a separate category in the user interface and just listed based on changed/created-date.

One way to accomplish this could be if the folder for example contains an empty file called .nomatch or some other magic name for example?

Thank you for reading :-)

How do you expect those files to show? As a stray episode using the file name/scan date and extract the thumbnail from the video?

This is doable but I'm not sure if it makes sense to have this in Kyoo. Is there a reason you think this should be integrated?

The reason this would be useful for me is because I share a media library with my family who lives elsewhere over wireguard, including parents who are well past retirement age and aunts/uncles etc.

They're mostly interested in personal videos, which I've made it easy for them to send from phones to the server. Right now it's shared via NFS/SMB so they can browse it using a file explorer on a permanent mount but your app makes it easy for them to get this running on their TVs as well instead of plugging a laptop in with HDMI etc.

But also we share youtube videos, and it would be much better to share them via kyoo than sending youtube links where you have ads and crap.

Frankly any kind of normal file browser view is fine with thumbnails. I'm not sure how other operating systems thumbnail videos but I believe the Gnome thumbnailer just takes the frame in the middle of the video. Would of course be great if they could be sorted by name/upload date/original creation date/whatever, and if the filename was indexed as part of the search feature.

+1 to this request.

I have videos I’ve saved, like recipes for cooking that would be great to serve via one interface. Being able to use a single app to watch shows and recipe videos while cooking would be a great service.
