GitHub will render the Markdown as HTML, giving a better reading experience. See issue #67

It's not a Markdown file though. It's Restructured Text. I was trying to figure out what file extension Github uses for that and whether or not it works, but couldn't find it the other day.

If you want to convert the README to a Markdown file though, I'd be happy to take a patch!
