Could we divide the item type into something like "Image" and "Object"? This would cover both kinds of artworks, as well as ethnographic photographs, spy gear from the Spy Museum, etc.
Would we also augment one or both with more specific fields?
this calls for "place" to be added to artwork - sounds very plausible to me: http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/28199/place-element-for-artwork/#Item_0
I'd like to bump the request for "place" to be added to artwork type. Zotero was not formatting artworks correctly in Chicago Manual of Style 16th Ed (note) format as of last night (Nov, 2014), and lacked the essential field for place of current collection of the artwork.
edit - @adam3smith thanks for letting me know. This is my first comment!
there's no need to bump any of these--no Zotero field/item changes have been implemented since these issues were started.
I don't see what CSL change would be needed here? CSL already has graphic
and figure
. I don't know that an artwork
type is really needed. While graphic
might not be the most general label, it is widely used for all forms of still visual artwork (e.g., sculptures, paintings).
@denismaier @bdarcus Thoughts?
I think so too. This discussion is about Zotero artwork
, which is currently mapped to CSL graphic
, and about adding a place variable in the Zotero UI. (In CSL that is probably just event-place
, though the "event" part sounds a bit odd here.)
We could discuss if more fine grained item type were needed here, but I guess we'd need input from art historians on that.
Here is discussion on the Zotero forums about exhibitions/exhibition catalogs. I think that collection
might be able to accommodate these. But not exactly sure. https://forums.zotero.org/search/?Search=exhibition+catalog
There is some discussion about the artwork item type. One of the issues is that this item type is frequently used for images that don't qualify as art. To make it easier for users to find the right item type, maybe we should just rename "Artwork" to "Image/artwork"?
