Not sure how this should be implemented but one solution is discourse-nntp-bridge which is run on Discourse server side.
It would be fun to be able to create community of retro computing and allow NNTP access from old computers but allow nice web experience for the modern users.
If we go with Discourse then the instance could live somewhere in the cloud with the NNTP bridge. Retroska could then offer an encrypted (transparent) proxy to there to avoid sending passwords in clear text in the case of very legacy clients.
