6 years ago For item 734 the preview image is http://www.criticalcommons.org/Members/swelland/clips/qionghua-exposes-her-wounds/thumbnailImage which I found by inspecting the page with the video embedded. I'm not sure if these links are displayed anywhere in the area of the Critical Commons site so that you can just copy them from there, but it wasn't hard to find in the inspector in the browser.
I don't think we have any Internet Archive clips up yet, but it looks like the full Red Detachment of Women is already on there. Inspection shows the thumbnail image is stored at: https://archive.org/download/The_Red_Detachment_of_Women/The_Red_Detachment_of_Women.thumbs/rdow.part1_000060.jpg
We have a couple of options for how to handle this:
- Store the link to the embed thumbnail as item metadata
- If the preview image is not under an account we control we may not be able to pick what it is.
- I'm not even sure if Internet Archive lets you pick the preview image. I think CC does if I recall correctly.
- Would require setting thumbnail link metadata on each video item.
- Attach an image to the item, but if it has "Embed" metadata we display the video preview instead of the image at the top of the item show page.
- This attached image is only used for display in thumbnails when the item is in a gallery.
- Complete control over which preview image is used.
- Have to upload an extra file for each Moving Image.
Depending on how we can get these previews, we may need to add a semi-transparent play button overlay to indicate that it is a video.
