Q: What happend?

shipgraveyard

A: Nobody knows. Yes, this is unlikely to happen and I needed several attempts to generate a truly ambiguous situation. The number of remaining ships is of course known and the affected squares count as water in every respect anyways. So, is there any loss of information? I can imagine a situation, in which the knowledge of the length of one ship influences the possible distributions of the yet to be found ships. (ie if it had been longer, then in the initial distribution there would have been no space left for some other ship, therefore the other ship can't be in column x.) This is uber quibbling, I know...

Rounded rectangles make it somewhat less ambiguous. screenshot from 2014-03-29 00 55 21 I am not sure if they look so pretty...

Do you think this is better? I wouldn't do any bigger changes, though, because the user has to keep track of the game himself to some extent, in my opinion. ;-)

Yes, I guess this rendering would make things clearer. Maybe even a bit "less round", i.e., smaller radius at the corners?
