Separate compensation into billable and non-billable time #17

@zincmade/delivery-team Thoughts on this?

Goals are:

  1. Maintain flexibility when we gain/lose clients
  2. Pay people who are generating Zincs revenue for the value they're providing
  3. Extend our financial runway.

This is somewhat stressful, because I'm doing about half/half. And it probably represents a significant pay cut for some. Haven't done the math yet, but I think the idea makes sense given the stress around company financial stuff.

I think a transparent company should provide impact analysis along with financial changes.

zspencer commented 9 years ago

@krainboltgreene can you explain what you mean by that?

krainboltgreene commented 9 years ago

@zspencer Like @kmanion said, they do 50% billable / 50% unbillable, but someone else might be doing 75/25 or 25/75. We pay everyone equally to be financially transparent and be an equal opportunity employer. This will unequally impact employees of Zinc and maybe it would be ethical to make that impact visible.

@krainboltgreene Our compensation spreadsheet is not public; but if you go to it you'll see a tab that has the math already applied for if we enact this scenario.

@krainboltgreene could you describe what you mean by a transparent company? I consider ourselves more selectively translucent than transparent :)
