This is a preference pane for Mac OS X 10.7+ that enables hardware media keys (prev, play, next) to be routed to 3rd-party sandboxed applications in a nice way, without unwanted side effects. This has been specifically created with G-Ear, a native Google Music player for Mac in mind, but any suggestion or patch is welcome!

Apple Remote #11

I am trying to use this so that the play/pause, next & previous buttons on the Apple Remote control 3rd party apps (such as Google Chrome, Radiant plater, Spotify).

The preferences pane appears to say that this is possible, but nothing works.

Also, the option to start an app by pressing a button doesn't work either.

Is this a bug, or am I missing something?

This is on Yosemite 10.10.3.

Dear danyuk, this should be possible, you are right. Basically, what I've noticed that on some configurations the preference pane does not work, I've yet to figure out why. Do the media keys on your keyboard work as intended, or neither do they?

Hi - yes the media keys on the keyboard work perfectly, they control any app (i.e. Chrome) fine.

Ok, I will look into it, thanks for reporting!

Any joy with this? Would be really handy to have this feature!

Hi! Thanks for getting back to me. However, I didn't have the time to do that, and I cannot promise anything due to lack of time. I'll try my best though!
