v2 #4

Open JamesBremner opened 1 year ago

While you were busy getting your computer fixed or replaced, I went ahead and developed the basis of v2.

So far, it looks like this:

This involved a significant amount of work over the last week

I am opening this issue for a discussion of how you want to support this work.

ztlawton commented 1 year ago

What do you think would be best?

JamesBremner commented 1 year ago

I would like to be paid US$ 200 for v1, and US$ 300 for v2 when completed to your satisfaction.

ztlawton commented 1 year ago

I'm very sorry, but I did not realize there was an expectation of payment for this. It would have been better for you to lead with that, when we were still on Stack Exchange.

When you said "how you want to support this work" I took that to mean coding support, not financial support. My ability to provide the former is pretty limited but I think I can learn to do the basics; my ability to provide the latter is EXTREMELY limited and unlikely to increase any time soon.

FYI: today I have been working on preventing modules being located outside the cutoff corners of the grid and ensuring that all workshops are connected to the central square. Here is a screenshot of the results:

Can you be more precise? What do you consider my work to be worth?

ztlawton commented 1 year ago

As a reference for "how limited", I am playing the game this project is related to nearly 8 years after it was initially released because I thought the full price of $40 was too expensive to pay on my current income and waited until it went on sale for more than 50% off to buy it.

I'm sure your time, effort, and expertise is valuable, but my experience on the various Stack Exchange websites has been that people answering questions are, effectively, donating their expertise to the asker. Admittedly I have only asked three questions on Stack Overflow specifically, including the question that spawned this project, so I have a much more limited exposure to the culture on Stack Overflow than I do to the culture on other Stack Exchange sites. But none of the answers to any of my other questions across Stack Exchange came with an expectation of payment, so I assumed the same was true here. I did think you were being especially generous with your time and effort, given the amount that you've spent writing code and giving me a crash course in software engineering, but I didn't question it. Perhaps I should have.

I am still waiting for a counter offer to my bid.

Really, there is no need to go into detail about your thoughts and feelings.

JamesBremner commented 1 year ago

Are you still thinking about your counter offer? Or have you decided not to support my work?

Sorry to nag you, but I would like to know if I should continue working on this, or move on to something else

JamesBremner commented 1 year ago

OK then, I will move on.

  1. I have removed your access to my repository.
  2. If at any time you want to re-enter negotiations, please send me an email. ( My address is in my Github profile ). On successful conclusion of a negotiation I will restore your access to my repository, including the v2 code.

Yeah, I really can't pay anything.
