This is not so easy to implement because it stores the state of website for each users when they left the website. However, it's something nice to have. I will think about the technical details but I am sure it would be a big effort.
Ahhh, at last I found something "no that easy" for you!
A change occurred in the hike you're attending
If this is implemented, it would be worth asking the organiser whether to notify attendees (if they only changed the description). If I just correct a typo or formatting error in the description, I wouldn't want an email/notification to go out to everyone.
Bonus points for requesting a changelog entry: when I click "Save Changes and Notify Participants", I should be able to write "Added spikes to kit list", which appears in the email/notification text.
Only time and meeting point point related changes are notified to every participant and waitlisted user.
This was a suggestion for when the notifications system is working, as sometimes I make changes that I would like everyone on the hike to know about, particularly regarding kit list, and adding a comment is not guaranteed to reach everyone.
Like on Facebook, I've been thinking of adding an icon in the navbar telling you what's new since the last time you opened the website. It shall be possible to activate / deactivate each type of notification from your profile page.
