blank menus and crashes after using menu bar or right click #1229

Describe the bug

When I right-click on anything, or click on any of the items in the menu bar (except 'help'), a blank rectangle without visible menu text is displayed. Shortly after that, the app becomes unresponsive and I have to click "wait" (sometimes more than once) before I can use it again.

To Reproduce

Right-click on a link in a message or left-click on an item in the menu bar.

Expected behavior

A menu with visible text should be displayed and the app should not crash.

I had the same problem with Zulip 5.9.3 on Ubuntu 22.04, but only if Zulip was installed as a snap package. I remove the snap package, downloaded and installed the AppImage of Zulip 5.9.3 instead, and the problem was gone. It seems like there is an error in the snap package for Ubuntu 22.04. The snap package on an older Ubuntu 20.04 worked fine.
