i noticed in the accessibility branch that fonts are using foundicon and not glyph also on an rather than span, is this the way forward? like bootstraps? if it is is it ready for production?

This is the way forward indeed. What is committed should be ready for production I believe. I still need to go through and double check everything, but feel free to start using them like that if you want.
