Restriction to only KDE and GNOME? #72

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install plugin on chrome
2. restart chrome
3. switchy button flashes

What is the expected output?
Working plugin. It worked immediately on install but upon restart fails.
I think it is failing because it is restricting the allowed desktops too
much. Does this check need to exist? I am using the awesome WM
http://awesome.naquadah.org/

What do you see instead?
3. System Environment (Plugin error: Your Linux distribution isn't
supported yet. Currently only Gnome and KDE based distributions are
supported.)

Switchy version: v1.5.0.8
Operating system: Archlinux x86_64

Error Log (Switchy Options > press 'Error Log' button):

Actually there is no restriction here, it's just a test to give you a hint
about the
problem.
Currently, Chrome reads proxy settings from Gnome and KDE configuration, and
for other
desktops, it uses the system environment variables (http_proxy, ftp_proxy, ...).
And therefore, Switchy only supports Gnome and KDE desktops.
Though, you can try some workarounds to make Switchy works on Archlinux (see
this:
http://code.google.com/p/switchy/wiki/LinuxSupport).

I find this problem still exists even with version 1.6.3 on my Gentoo system.

I don't use any DE (I don't use gnome, kde or xfce4). I only use fluxbox as WM.

I use `startx' to start up X, and in my .xinitrc, there is only two lines as
following:

#!/bin/sh
fluxbox

The error message is misleading and needs to be changed. I've used Switchy!
with xfce for more than a year. But now it is failing and only tells me to use
gnome or kde.
