Unable to find user #533

After upgrade from 1.7.0 to latest.war users are unable to login from the main 
page.  Error on page is "Unable to find username. Please try again"

Upgrade steps followed correctly
can find answers in DB for user if forgotten password button is pressed for 
users that have completed the initial connection.
If backup is restored application works as expected.

Nothing screaming wrong in tomcat log or application log.

Any assistance would be appreciated.  We are looking to go live and would like 
the new version that possibly calculated the AD password expiration correctly 
on the user info page.
