Code formatting & Linting

• [x] Do some code formatting to (mostly) adhere to PEP8 guidelines (https://peps.python.org/pep-0008/) --> Use linting with flake8 and black
• [x] Add type hints
• [x] Add docstrings (see #20)

Once that is done, we might recommend pre-commit hooks for further contributions.
