Ideas:
Scaling down Particle amount.
Simplifying shaders.
Reducing draw distance
Disabling dynamic shadows
Disabling postprocessing (bloom, SSAO, tonemapping etc.)

Since it's almost 2015, HDR shouldn't be much of a problem for most people, so automatically enabling HDR on maps without LDR would have been pretty convinient.
