DEFINITIONS: Have clear definitions of components, configurations and experiments #463

Open KAUR1984 opened 11 months ago

Description

Have clear definitions of what components and configurations are, and their differences. Should we it perhaps add a footnote or display it diagrammatically (perhaps, by having a GIF explaining the coming together of models to make the model configurations).

Why

For clear definitions of terms used across the hive page, and try explaining them visually.

From Slack:

Max Proft 4:09 PM https://access-hive.org.au/development_site/models/ Opening paragraph is very wordy and unclear. Suggested changes: ACCESS models are comprised of components and couplers. Components represent major earth system components (e.g. atmosphere, land surface, ocean and sea ice). Couplers describe the interaction between individual components (e.g. Sea ice melting into the ocean). A collection of components and couplers linked together describe a Model (e.g. Ocean Model), which are then used to perform simulations corresponding to realistic past or future conditions and idealised experiments.

I like Max's suggestion. I would also add a few lines at the end of it to make it clear what we mean with configuration. We might also link to the FAQ related to it here. @ACCESS-NRI/webops
