Back button is well working in ELSA: the user can easily cancel current operation and go back where (s)he was previously. So what is the most interesting links to show in a Breadcrumb trail at top of each screen ? All displays should be re-evaluated and adjusted at this level so beginners and experts never get lost.

This page summarize well why Breadcrumbs are useful: http://ui-patterns.com/patterns/Breadcrumbs I suggest to evaluate each display and decide what is the "top-down" path for each. For instance, for a specific Batch, it could be "Home" - "Recipe Map" - "Recipe" - "Batch" For editing a specific Batch, the same - "Edit" For editing a specific Transfer: breadcrumbs to its Batch - "Batch transfers" - "Transfer"
