Unclear what the relationship is between TOE and created entities #64

Open bergtwvd opened 2 years ago

bergtwvd commented 2 years ago

It is not clear if the entire table of organisation and equipment (TOE) tree is duplicated in both the NETN-ORG and NETN-MRM, and NETN-Physical object instances. The key concept is missing as to the expected concept of operation and how NETN-ORG it relates to federation play.

Note: NETN-Physical and parts of NETN-MRM are now included in NETN-ENTITY.

  1. TOE is published using NETN-ORG.
  2. Some TOE elements are published as Aggregates or Physical Entities using NETN-ENTITY.
  3. Which TOE elements actively being simulated as NETN-ENTITY entities at any given time during simulation can change depending on NETN-MRM actions.

The TOE information can be used by a simulator to perform aggregation, disaggregation, division and merge activities using NETN-MRM. The TOE information describes the relationship between units, their equipment and specific equipment items. During MRM events, this information is crucial.

The intention is not necessarily to have a one-to-one mapping of elements in the NETN-ORG structure with NETN-ENTITY elements. The NETN-ENTITY represents a game piece being actively simulated. E.g. simulating the platoons of a company as game pieces but not the company itself vs simulating the company as a game piece but not the platoons as individual game pieces.

Clarification to be included in NETN-ORG, NETN-MRM and NETN-ENTITY or as separate chapter in the NATO FOM documentation.
