Requirement to sort species names for Japan BMS. Both latin and common name sorting required. As per attached. JapanBMSWebsiteRequest1stFeb.pdf JapaneseButterfliesListRevised.xls

Hi @DavidRoy ,

I have corrected the % Cloud label.

I have examined how the current system is operating, and have these questions regarding the other requests.

  1. In regards to the Taxonomic Sort Order. Currently the problem is the sort order isn't set on the species list items at all. I can import the suggested sort order. Be aware this will be applied to be the order no matter what language you have selected when taxonomic sort order is selected. You will lose the current sort order it uses (which I think is pretty random). Is this OK?

  2. The Species Name functionality is working for what it is attempting to do. It does an alphabetical sort based on the preferred latin name, but this is not obvious as the grid shows common as its main name. So my question is:

A: Do you want this button removed and replaced with a common name alphabetical order in selected language.

B: Or do you want an extra button for a common name alphabetical order in selected language.

@andrewvanbreda thanks for looking at this.

  1. Yes, I understand this. When we have time, we'll setup a complete sort order
  2. Option B is clearest

Hi @DavidRoy I have added a new sort order button, and changed the labels so they are clearer. Taxonomic Sort Order Latin Common

Common seems to work in Japanese, however only some of the tanslations from the spreadsheet have been entered. But the ones that are there are in the right order. Without access to the database, it is difficult for me to search and check the taxonomic sort order in the Warehouse and compare to the spreadsheet. However testing some of the items looks like it isn't working on screen, however I suspect this isn't the code, it is the lack of sort order entered in the Warehouse. So I have some questions:

  1. Is someone going to be entering the remaining translations. This could be me, but keep in mind my existing workload, and also it might be easier for somone with direct access to the database who can check which translations haven't already been entered.

  2. As I can't see the DB, it is hard for me to comment on the taxonmic sort order. The taxonomic sort order could easily be imported, however that is under the assumption the taxonomic sort order applies as a sort order for all languages, if it is a special sort order only for Japanese am not sure we have an existing way of achieving that.

Sort order made scheme configurable.

@Gary-van-Breda Great thanks, I will see how this fits in with report changes I have made in this area.
