@DavidRoy could you answer this? automatic rule check is working for butterflies only from 2023 records. It would be good to apply it for moths, although I am not sure if we have the presence-absence per country in Europe @chrisvanswaay or @JurrienVanDeijk do you know this?
At least for Portugal, we can provide a list of presence-absence.
@chrisvanswaay do you think we could create the rule-set layers for Europe?
Good suggestion Joao! As output from the European Moth Red List we have a presence/absence list per species per country, so this should be possible.
We need more than a country list unfortunately. We need a spatial layer of the range for each species. Chris did this for butterflies and I wonder if it would be possible/sensible for moths which have much less occurrence data
We used SDM's to do this for the moths as well. It might not be perfect, but maybe a good start to filter out a part of the possible mistakes
I agree, the SDM's would be a good starting point.
@DavidRoy Can't this be simplified? Having checklists for each country, can't it be as simple as applying a filter so that if a species not known from a specific country is recorded there, a red icon appears?
Can we add automatic rule checks for moth sampling? For the Portuguese scheme we can share data about the known distribution and phenology of each species of macro moth recorded in Portugal. Moreover, we can also provide a scale of "identification difficulty".
These can be very useful to make validating process easier, as the number of records per day keeps growing. As far as I am aware, these rule checks are already working for butterflies.
