3 or 4 linear bearings to support the bed? #2

Carlos,

The milling bed has currently 4 linear bearings supporting it and as the milling bed will be moving on a plane (y axis), is it not more convenient to have 3 linear bearings which will give more stability in the case of pressure on the bed(drilling holes, Height probing, etc?

cheers. img_0590 1

Hi, I don't see how three points can give more stability in case of pressure. Specifically, I'm thinking of the two corners that are left without support. My belief is that this solution won't scale well: still needs to tested out milling other materials different than FR4 (wich wouldn't be an issue using Z calibration) to see if it performs as well as the four point support.

Ok, at later time we can test it and and get real data, I was just rambling on about the old 3 vs 4 legged stool's stability dilemma. :)
