Channels with special chars are unable to be interacted with

Doing something like ~join #chew.pw will not work! It will join #chew.pw on irc, but messages will be sent to #chewpw. no bueno!

"Special" chars: . , ! ? @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) [ ] { } | \ : ; ' " ` ~ / < > + and a space ^

Unfortunately I can't really do anything with this. Most/all of the unicode characters that LOOK like dots etc work as actual channel names...
