It needs to be 'easy' to clone the repository and create a dev and/or runtime environment for experimentation and learning. This doesn't need to be the only dev path of course. Just a possible dev path.

@rajkrishnamurthy i did a pull request for changes to README and added a dockerfile and docker-compose file that matches the readme. later we can look at any inconsistencies with your work-in-progress versions of these files and go from there. wanted to get this pushed as i'm not going to be looking at this until next week.
