No discs recognised in Disc Channel ( DI/IOS fatal error ?) #38

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. In Preloader 0.30r4, disable all system menu hacks and save settings.
2. From Preloader 0.30r4 menu, boot to HBC.
3. From HBC, uninstall Preloader 0.30r4.
4. Restart Wii, then, from HBC, install Priiloader 0.3b r47.
5. After installation complete, from HBC, shut down Wii.
6. Start Wii and insert disc.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

When previously using 0.30r4, whether using system hacks or not, all discs
are recognised in the disc channel. The only system hacks ever used were:
Block System Updates, Region Free Wii Games and Region Free GC games.

When using Priiloader 0.3b r47, no discs are recognised in the Disc
Channel; either on the banner, or in the channel itself. After inserting a
disc, the Wii drive seems to be in perpetual read state, and the only means
of exiting this is to hold down the Wii's power button to restart.

When I uninstall Priiloader 0.3b r47, restart and insert a disc, it is
recognised in the Disc Channel and will boot successfully.

What version of priiloader are you using? On what ios/system menu?

Priiloader: 0.3 r47
IOS: 60
System Menu: 4.1E

Do you have any IOS patches installed? (if so which ios and what patch?)

4.1E installed using Waninkoko's updater, and latest Shopping Channel
installer used. No additional patches applied beyond that.

What are your wii system menu settings?

System Menu: 4.1E
TV Resolution: 480p

could you use signcheck or something to check the state of all ios's and tell
us?

Are these burnt disks or retail disks? Could make some potential difference.

Didn't try r47 (actually, r47 should be 0.3 not 0.3b) but installed 0.3b R48,
no
problem for me now. Tried original disc and burnt disc, both Wii game and GC
game
boots Ok for me. I am under 4.1U

Re comment 1: please find attached.
Re comment 2: I have tested with both retail and burnt discs (verbatim). The
result
is the same.
Re comment 3: my bad, I meant to type Priiloader 0.3 r47.

I can confirm this halfway...My Setting:

Wii: 4.2
IOS: 70 (Trucha. All my IOS have Trucha. I know it's stupid, don't tell me
that.)
Priiloader: r48 (0.3b)
ModChip: WiiKey 1

I enabled pretty much all Hacks (Region-Free, Move Channel, etc.), and it always
recognizes and plays the Banner and Sound of the Disc, if I boot with it or
insert it
after the menu is loaded. The only problem is that the game won't load (Retail
and
Backup), it just results in a black screen, and the drive spins forever.

Also, dunno if this is a problem, but if I load Priiloader with a Disc
inserted, it
takes a while until the menu appears, and the Drive boots up for a short time.

Hope you can fix this. Keep up the great work!

the wiikey isn't a solderless modchip is it?
if it is, is anyone open to try 0.3b with and without the modchip?

and why 0.3b XmarksTheSnipeX? cause regular released 0.3(r47) didn't have the
bug?

I have the same problem. 4.1E system, YAOSM modchip.
System menu crashes when I insert any disc (both retail and backup)
This happens no matter what the hacks settings are.

Will do Daco. I will test everyone of those revs, and report back. (I think it

be rev31, I THINK)

please try the following installers then. the first one is what i have atm. it
changes some minor stuff that could be why it happens... (i dont have my high
hopes
of these tests tho)

if the first installer didn't fix it then try the second (when using second test
please be sure to enable "use system menu ios" ! you WILL get a system menu is
corrupt error if you leave it off!). if the second one fails then ill have to
look
what else it can be >_>

thanks for testing

Darn the bad luck Daco... I actually have a solderless Wiikey2 but I am moving
to
Japan at the moment. It may be 2 or 3 months before my household goods arrive
so I
don't have my Wii to test with. I hope someone is able to help you out before I
get
my stuff delivered and unpacked...

Well, some strange things happend here. Today I tried again booting Retails and
Backups, and it worked! I was still with the official 3b Release. Sometimes it
didn't
worked, but most of the time it did. Also Priiloader seemed to Autoskip to the
Menu
if a disk was inserted when I hold Reset, so I saw for a short time the Screen,
but
then it would boot the menu.

Test one fixed the Autoskip, sucessrate of Booting is perfect from my Tests, it
worked everytime (with Disc inserted, without disc inserted, etc...). Though,
first
it wouldn't let me boot to the Menu, and the Screen flickered a bit when
booting the
Menu.

Test two was basicly the same as test one, only the strange flicker
dissapperaed, and
the Disc is always spinning and doesn't get unmounted if you are in the
Priiloader-Menu.

Strange...Test One was the best for me, only the strange flicker was bad...:/

(Btw: My Setup is in Comment 7)

Like XMarksTheSnipeX, I can confirm that 0.3 r46 from the
0_2_to_0_3_installers.zip
pack is working, although booting the disc does seem to take noticeably longer
than
when using 0.2 r30 (this is with exactly the same settings and region hacks).
Unfortunately, neither of the installers in the Installer_tests.zip pack fixed
the
issue.

Good news Daco! After reading XMarksTheSnipeX's comments I thought I'd try
completely
uninstalling Priiloader 0.3 r46, and then re-installing using each of the
installers
in the Installer_tests.zip pack. I'm not sure why the installers failed the
first
time via the update method, but either way I can confirm that both of the
installers
are working and Priiloader 0.3c r48M all seems stable. Mysteriously, shutting
down
the Wii from the wiimote seems to take longer than usual when using either of
these
installers.

Disc loading is fine on my end, for all discs, including original (ninty
signed),
texture mods (fakesigned), dual layer, single layer, and GC games.

I seem to have the same problem. Softmodded.
Once the disc loads in system menu (tried in Neogamma with backup - worked OK!)
the
wiimote pointer disapears and nothings happens. Icons are still moving so I
guess the
Wii is no completely frozen.
