Can't install CFW on Dafang 2017DP3894 on 5.5.1.353 #669

Hello everyone

I really can't install the CFW on my dafang DF3 1080p. I tryed eveything. Downlaod cfw from 1.0 to 1.3, put on microsd, holdsetup button than powered and release at different times. I tried 2 different microsd from Lexar: one is 16GB the other is 8GB. Eveytime I try to flash the camera start spin in just 20seconds, and when I test the blue shining led, I don't get it. Also, passing the steps above give me no result. The camera use always the original firmware. On MiHome the camera is on firmware 5.5.1.353.

Can you give me some advice?

Maybe my DaFang is a new versione? I have bought it some weeks ago.

audisport commented 5 years ago

well, first of all, you need to disassemble your camera (only 2 screws) Then, you'll have access to the main board as seen here

Then, you need to open a serial console (minicom on Linux, iTerm on MacOS, if you are on windows, I would suggest to reinstall a real OS :)). The settings should be 115200,8,N,1. Then you'll be able to watch the boot sequence as I have shown last week.

When you have the prompt Ingenic-uc1_1 login: type root and the password is ismart12

Then you should unpack the latest .bin firmware and copy the files on your SD card as shown here

When this part is done, plug your SD card back on the camera and use dd to write directly to the NAND every part of the firmware manually. dd if=uboot.bin of=/dev/mtdblock0 dd if=kernel.bin of=/dev/mtdblock1 dd if=rootfs.bin of=/dev/mtdblock2 dd if=driver.bin of=/dev/mtdblock3 dd if=appfs.bin of=/dev/mtdblock4 dd if=backupk.bin of=/dev/mtdblock5 dd if=backupd.bin of=/dev/mtdblock6 dd if=backupa.bin of=/dev/mtdblock7 dd if=config.bin of=/dev/mtdblock8 dd if=para.bin of=/dev/mtdblock9 dd if=flag.bin of=/dev/mtdblock10

Hope this will help some of you. In any case, if you don't understand what you are doing or if you are not sure, please : DON'T DO ANYTHING and wait for the next release, it probably will take care of the actual issue.

Cheers !

HI! I tried to came back original firmware. I did everything you wrote, but the terminal tells me that login/password(root/ismart12) are wrong. Camera Dafang, firmware now CFW. Standard metod with reset button don`t work, i tried all sd wich i had, and make 1 part 512mb. Help me... Have a nice day.

WYZE Cam V2 was fully updated via Wyze App to 4.9.2.52 flashed back to 4.9.2.18-1 Flashed CFW. Currently running dafang hacks with no issue.

I had recently got Wyze Cam V2. Came with 4.9.1.76. Installed into Wyze App and instructed it to not update FW when asked. Successfully installed CFW, which now reports 4.9.1.60 in Wyze App.

Just curious which of these it is possible to use with CFW, and/or update "original" FW image with Wyze Cam V2 Firmware lists following:

UPDATE 29-Dec-2018: Added 4.9.3.64

For now, I think I will not "upgrade" Wyze FW until this issue is resolved.

It appears that the Flashing your WyzeCam v2 firmware page was edited yesterday, taking down the older versions/links from Wyze, and only keeping the recent ones, on a new server/link scheme. You can see this for yourself by clicking on the "2 (pencil)" history link on the top post. Sorry, I don't have copies hosted available of the older versions.

EDIT: it appears old versions are still available from main site (non-CDN), e.g.,

New firmware V4.9.3.64 for Wyze Cam v2 is released at December 13, 2018.

It says says

Added more guard check before firmware upgrade to make upgrade safer https://support.wyzecam.com/hc/en-us/articles/360010068231-Wyze-Cam-v2-Firmware

is this a cure for "broken" bootloader commented at https://github.com/EliasKotlyar/Xiaomi-Dafang-Hacks/issues/669#issuecomment-441327163?

Just bought a Dafang, came with a SW version 5.5.1.328. Doesn't seem to flash with CFW. Any additional tests I could run to help the investigations?

mjoach commented 5 years ago

I got Dafang with 5.5.1.328 firmware last week as well and was relieved to see it still works with CFW. Took a few tries though, so make sure it's not down to your SD card formatting.

Latest version of dafang is 5.5.1.419. Did anyone have any luck with this firmware?

I have successfully used CFW on Dafang firmware 5.5.1.243 (arrived in December). Was struggling initially with SD card as it was not mounting the card with just 512 MB partition on 32GB card. Only worked when formatted full partition on 32GB card. Had to connect via serial console to see what was causing problems.

tylerl commented 5 years ago

For Wyze v2: I just set up a new camera per manufacturer instructions, did the automatic download/install of the latest firmware (4.9.3.64), and then after that used the standard sdcard method to flash the CFW and successfully booted the latest modded firmware.

No troubles at all. Since I was expecting trouble, I had already added serial pin headers, and I got serial transcript of the whole pre-flash (standard FW), during-flash, and post-flash (modded FW) boot processes if anyone needs any information out of them. Everything looks pretty unremarkable though; it all "just worked" as advertised.

idcrook commented 5 years ago

Wyze V2: 4.9.3.64

Thanks. I, too, can confirm that 4.9.3.64 on Wyze v2 is compatible with CFW:

  1. Upgraded to 4.9.3.64 using Wyze app on iOS
  2. Performed normal µSD CFW install (NOTE: iOS app will report 4.9.1.60 FW version afterward for OEM FW since that is the FW that comes with CFW bootloader)

Hello i have a Dafang 2017DP3894 fw 5.5.1.285 , this hack woks on this model??

cksonny commented 5 years ago

Guys, honestly, been having this problem for more than 2 weeks. I then took a brand new card and the formatted it to 400 mb. Then followed the demo.bin step followed by the remaining steps. Turns out the other 2 SD cards I had previously used had some invincible partitions that prevented me from installing. The best way to identify this is, try deleting all the partitions inside the SD card using Windows 'Disk Management', if you get an error, the SD card is the root of your problem.

danmed commented 5 years ago

@cksonny not sure if you are in the wrong thread or what, but this is due to the latest firmware preventing demo.bin from being loaded on boot.. nothing to do with SD cards.

cksonny commented 5 years ago

Why don't you try reading the thread from the beginning?

palakmar commented 5 years ago

can one downgrade firmware to get this working?

palakmar commented 5 years ago

Ok, this is my first time doing this so can you please explain?

  1. Do I need a bootloader?
  2. Once I flash to 5.5.1.194 do I do the flash?

Sorry I have all these questions but I am not sure what to do Marceli Palak

  1. Download "demo_5.5.1.194.bin" and copy it to the root of FAT32 formatted SD Card an rename it to "demo.bin"
  2. With power removed insert SD Card into camera.
  3. While holding down the "Setup" button, plug in the power cable.
  4. After about 5 seconds both the yellow and blue LEDs on the front will be illuminated. The firmware is now flashing, mine took about 50 seconds.
  5. Follow the normal hack installation.

The firmware for Xiaofang in this github seems to be decompiled and i can't find any instructions on how to put it all back together as a demo.bin

hansaya commented 5 years ago

I have been messing with my Waze Pan for few hours and I managed to replace the uboot. Since there are lot of people here with various issues. I'm focused on fixing the original issue where you get uboot error to load the demo.bin

1) First what worked: I manged to use https://github.com/anmaped/openfang project and got rstp stream working. How? You can get into the uboot console at the beginning by spamming the console at the boot time and installed a custom uboot.

fatload mmc 0:1 0x80600000 u-boot-lzo-with-spl.bin
sf probe
sf update 0x80600000 0x000000000000 0x000000040000

Then you go through guide on the github to create memory card to load the operating system.

What bad with this system? Well I did not like the uboot build because it was half broken and I didnt like how hard it is to get going. (first world problems)

2) Then I managed to install newly built uboot from https://github.com/Dafang-Hacks/uboot/tree/master/compiled_bootloader

fatload mmc 0:1 0x80600000 dafang_128mb_v2.bin
sf probe
sf update 0x80600000 0x000000000000 0x000000040000

U-boot seems to work fine but it does not seems to be designed to run cfw image to create the bootable memory card so it starts up the default waze image.

3) This where i'm at now. Does anyone has the boot loader that works with this project? I cannot seems to find it. I managed to install https://github.com/EliasKotlyar/Xiaomi-Dafang-Hacks/tree/master/hacks/recovery and I have broken camera now :) (anything for science). Next plan is to take the spi chip out and program it manually.

Yes, It Works!!!

I can now also confirm downgrading a dafang (firmware 5.5.1.419) works with "demo_5.5.1.94.bin". The third sd-card I've tried finally worked. After downgrading (can be verify with mi home app) you simply follow the instructions.

Don't give up and try various sd-cards. Older 4GB and 8GB cards both did't work - a 32GB (fully formatted) did the job finally.

sendorm commented 5 years ago

I can also confirm that downgrading to 194 first did the trick for me. I also used a 32GB sd card with no problems.

  • [x] 2018/12 4.9.3.64 - 29-Dec-2018: flashes CFW normally, according to below
  • [ ] 2018/10 4.9.2.52 - does not flash CFW, according to above
  • [ ] 2018/09 4.9.2.42
  • [x] 2018/07 4.9.2.18 - DOES flash CFW after downgrade to 4.9.2.18-1 from 4.9.2.52, according to above
  • [x] 2018/06 4.9.1.76 - came with my Cam V2, did flash CFW based on 4.9.1.60

  • [ ] 2018/04 4.9.1.42
  • [ ] 2018/04 4.9.1.34

For now, I think I will not "upgrade" Wyze FW until this issue is resolved.

Hey guys... Soooo.. just to confirm, the latest official FW from wyzecam is compatible with dafang hacks? I'm about to buy another wyzecam pan/V2 and want to make sure I can set it up with dafang.

I'm just confused that wyzecam would take away the functionality and then put it back in...

d00lar commented 5 years ago

i can also confirm downgrade dafang using demo_5.5.1.194.bin then normal bl flash and then copy files with no problems at all using some random 8gb microsd thanks !

bradley-madaris commented 5 years ago

I'm not sure what OS you guys are using to format your micro SD card but I was having a heck of a time with it on macOS Mojave 10.14.3. I sat around and thought about it... Maybe Disk Utility wasn't formatting it correctly. I opened up Terminal an used this to format my micro SD card...

sudo diskutil eraseDisk FAT32 UNTITLED MBRFormat disk3

For some reason, after formatting it with MBRFormat attached to the line, it made it work without a single issue. Of course, you would switch the location of your disk, disk3 to whichever location is provided when running diskutil list.

I should also mention that I am formatting the micro SD card for a Wyze Pan.

hellad commented 5 years ago

@d00lar From what version of firmware have you downgraded? I try to do this from 5.5.1.419 with no luck. I used 3 different microSD cards from 4 to 32Gb capacity.

I also should add to @bradleymadaris post that there was unobvious problem with microSD card formatting in my case. I used to use Easus partition manager to quickly change partition types and size. Only when I connected to serial port of my Dafang 1080P camera I saw error message when system attempted to access microSD card. Finaly I found out that there was free space about 7.5Mb BEFORE first FAT partition. Then I format microSD card with unother old program - SDformatter. And problem gone.

Now camera can see microSD card. Unfortunately my Dafang camera can not be downgraded using demo_5.5.1.194.bin yet.

Below I attached boot log while attempted to downgrade (long list, sorry). It's unclear for me what is the reason of failure. I don't see error messages about wrong size of firmware as discussed before in this thread. I'd appreciate any ideas what can I do next.

I suppose that the only way to hack my camera now is

Hope this sequence will not break the camera ;) .

Also I'd like to know how to eliminate negative impact of constant log output in serial console. It's really disturbing. Does somebody redirect it to file?

Bootlog when tried to downgrade from 4GB microSD card. Xiaomi Dafang Demo.bin flash attempt with well formatted 4G.log

Been trying to get both a Dafang and Xiaofang model to work, but unfortunately in my network setup, despite creating an isolated WiFi and VLAN just to test the linking between the Mi Home app and the cameras, they successfully associate and get a DHCP lease (and communicate with a gazillion China-based hosts via TCP/UDP connections to all kinds of ports, including some unusual Alibaba-owned networks) but the app gets stuck at "Connecting device to network", as if it could not see the cameras.

I'm not sure where to go from there, as there is zero documentation on how to locally upgrade or downgrade the firmware, or even files to download for that purpose.

I was in a similar situation (i believe you are wanting to downgrade a Xiaofang in order to apply the hacks?) and i finally figured it out...

XIAOFANG: Download demo.bin from https://www102.zippyshare.com/v/OhOnBJg6/file.html Format a SD card (I used an 8GB and formatted to Fat32) Paste the file into the SD card Eject then insert SD card into the camera Hold the reset/setup button (make sure the camera is unplugged first) Plug the camera Wait for about 15 seconds You should see the yellow light turn into blue then flashing like normal again.

You will now be on 5.6.2.45 which the hacks work on

d00lar commented 5 years ago

Latest firmware of Dafang camera can be hacked.

I'd like to share my experience.

I successfully downgraded my Dafang 1080P camera from version 5.5.1.419 to demo_5.5.1.177.bin . The 4GB microSD card was used. That was the key factor in my case I beleive. Having beed downgraded, the camera's motor did not stop working during initial startup (until power off). New calibration was required.

After that I successfully hacked camera to cfw-1.3.bin. Unfortunately web GUI of my camera was unstable with significant delays. Some items in Settings menu did not react.

Later I successfully flashed version 5.5.1.194 for the test purposes and then again to cfw-1.3.bin.

Some problems still exist. Video at rtsp://dafang:8554/unicast not available while service started. But pictures are displayed in web gui and motion capture can be sent to telegram. So I don't see camera in my home-assistant. Vertical motion up does not work till I try to move down first. Motor calibration does not react in settings menu. Mqtt integartion with my mosquitto server works but in home-assistant log I see regular error messages like Jan 27 21:21:05 hassbian hass[717]: 2019-01-27 21:21:05 WARNING (MainThread) [homeassistant.components.cover.mqtt] Payload is not True or False: 0 Jan 27 21:21:05 hassbian hass[717]: 2019-01-27 21:21:05 WARNING (MainThread) [homeassistant.components.cover.mqtt] Payload is not True or False: 0

During boot I see many repeated error messages that should not exist in my opinion (see below).

I continiue my tests.

[ 47.942275] i2c i2c-0: i2c_jz_irq 441, I2C transfer error, ABORT interrupt [ 47.949414] i2c i2c-0: --I2C txabrt: [ 47.953141] i2c i2c-0: --I2C TXABRT[0]=I2C_TXABRT_ABRT_7B_ADDR_NOACK [ 47.959742] error: sensor_read,172 ret = -5 [ 47.964089] sensor_read: addr=0xa value = 0x0 [ 47.968693] err sensor read addr = 0xa, value = 0x0 [ 48.033902] i2c i2c-0: i2c_jz_irq 441, I2C transfer error, ABORT interrupt [ 48.041032] i2c i2c-0: --I2C txabrt: [ 48.044754] i2c i2c-0: --I2C TXABRT[0]=I2C_TXABRT_ABRT_7B_ADDR_NOACK [ 48.051352] error: sensor_read,172 ret = -5 [ 48.055697] sensor_read: addr=0x300a value = 0x0 [ 48.060571] err sensor read addr = 0x300a, value = 0x0 [ 48.126066] i2c i2c-0: i2c_jz_irq 441, I2C transfer error, ABORT interrupt [ 48.133516] i2c i2c-0: --I2C txabrt: [ 48.137231] i2c i2c-0: --I2C TXABRT[0]=I2C_TXABRT_ABRT_7B_ADDR_NOACK [ 48.143962] error: sensor_read,172 ret = -5 [ 48.148300] sensor_read: addr=0x300b value = 0x0 [ 48.153273] err sensor read addr = 0x300b, value = 0x0

If this file exist as usb_eth_driver.conf the run.sh wont load any WIFI subsystem and instead try to load the usb ethernet subsystem.

Currently it only supports the asix.ko driver

IS this why i cant connect to my wifi?

Can anyone provide some help please..?
