This changes to compass background to shift from black to grey with the lighting level.
Possible issue if the value ever becomes greater than 255 (not expected), but cross that bridge when we come to it?
For reference a 'blindingly bright' room only got us to a pencil shade grey.
Sadly, tKinter doesn't support image transparency very well to dynamically light a torch or sun in the background. I tried a sun image just for flavor and it looked horrible.
