Define “urban” vs “surroundings” in a consistent manner throughout the various analyses.
Taking into consideration: 1). excluding large water bodies 2). height correction, remove gradient between city and surroundings
Literature suggests approaches with ratios between 100-150% for urban vs. surroundings. We might take this into account (see Google Working Doc).
We defined an approach based on Morphological Dilation Functions [1]
