@finersarah could you, please, specify which codes you have excluded (obstetric PEs) so that I can remove them from this code list? Thanks.
Hi,
You just need to add the following to the existing VTE codelist and then rename it "venous thromboembolism".
16976 | ZV12900 | 1112 | 0 | 43 | 3 | [V] Personal history of pulmonary embolism | February 2009 96209 | G401100 | 298 | 0 | 0 | 0 | Recurrent pulmonary embolism | April 2009 1266 | G401.00 | 152066 | 0 | 4090 | 8 | Pulmonary embolism | February 2009
Thanks
Code list updated according to clinical revision and uploaded to the branch codesets-included-conditions.
Former 'Venous thromboembolic disease (Excl PE)' renamed to 'Venous thromboembolism'.
Code list renamed to CPRD_venous_thromb.csv.
Codelist reviewed. Pulmonary embolism had, I think, previously been excluded due to it's acute presentation. However, on reviewing this list and the range of different types of venous thromboembolism (e.g. venous sinus thrombosis, DVT), I think it would be a mistake to omit pulmonary embolus as this is a common cause of thromboembolism. Furthermore, it is highly likely to require treatment and/or monitoring that lasts 6 months or more. There may be some PEs (and other venous thromboembolic events) that present very acutely and require treatment for only 3 months or so, but it is not possible to exclude all of these as the diagnostic codes do not specify this and as they are a minority it is better to include them. However, I have excluded obstetric PEs as these rarely require treatment after 3 months postpartum.
Please rename this codelist "venous thromboembolism"
