cerebrovascular disease #173

I have reviewed "ischaemic stroke", "TIA" and "stroke_NOS"

Whilst there are clinical differences between the first 2 conditions (the _NOS codelist is mostly procedure based), they represent the same underlying pathology but at different stages of severity.

Our other codelists do not divide conditions up by severity (even ones where there could be a common approach taken, e.g. peripheral vascular disease is not subclassified into intermittent claudication, gangrene, or COPD could be mild requiring only minimal inhaler use, vs severe requiring home oxygen and significantly affecting daily life), and therefore I do not think we can justify keeping these codelists separate and it could introduce bias if we were to do so. I suspect that their being separated in this way reflects the origins of the conditions lists from CALIBER which was primarily a cardiac resource.

Therefore, please combine these lists and call them "cerebrovascular disease".

Clinical review complete

"Ischaemic stroke", "TIA" and "Stroke_NOS" code lists were merged into CPRD_cerebrovascular_dz.csv code list according to clinical revision and uploaded to the branch codesets-included-conditions.

Individual code lists removed. "Cerebrovascular disease" created.
