The current audio implementation just doesn't sound that great. It gets the job done for simple audio but there's a lot of more complex features that are just missing.
How would you like it to work?
ray traced audio propagation
automatic occlusion without placing any occlusion zones
controllable doppler effect
realistic reverb based on room size and material
proper accommodation for outdoor environments, a lot of audio implementations make the outdoors sound like a cave.
What have you tried?
I've tried adding some effects to the sounds themselves but it just sounds wrong and I don't see any way I can add audio occlusion with the current system
Additional context
Maybe reimplement steam audio, but it looks like valve has largely abandoned it, publicly at least. could be interesting to see an audio engine made from scratch.
For?
S&Box
What can't you do?
