Ability to colour GameObjects in the hierarchy and/or give them Icons #5605

For?

S&Box

What can't you do?

You cannot style GameObjects in your hierarchy. This is super helpful for being able to know which GameObject is which from an immediate glance instead of having to read through the list and find the name of the one you're looking for.

How would you like it to work?

Similar to GameMaker and Unity where you can set a Colour and Icon: image

Ideally this could be set where this little emoji is (clicking the emoji changes the icon, clicking the colour swatch changes the colour): image

What have you tried?

Naming gameobjects with emojis in their names but it feels very wrong and i wish I could just change the Icon/Colour.

Additional context

In GameMaker you set the colour by right clicking on the object and selecting from a few preset colours which are nice and quickly accessibly but also become limiting very fast: image

Maybe you could include options for both this and the above suggestion

Putting the american spelling of "color" here so it comes up in case people search for this issue šŸ˜…

You mean something like this? šŸ˜… image-73.png

Unfortunately Matt has already shot down this suggestion for being noisy and confusing https://github.com/Facepunch/sbox-issues/issues/4962

CarsonKompon commented 5 months ago

That is a rather silly reason when it would be 100% optional. The only things that are coloured/with icons are the things that you voluntarily coloured yourself. Reduces noise if anything since currently everything the same white/grey šŸ˜…

Bumping this, feel like this and folders/groups should happen. In bigger scene it can get a bit crowded and these things would help a ton.
