Introduction

Why should kids have all the fun? FieldTrippers is the social gathering while you learn app for adults. FieldTrippers employs GraphQL and Apollo for a fast, streamlined experience and permits the user to create or join already existing field trips with a few quick clicks. Simply enter a location and a list museums will be available for you to choose from. A host can limit the number of people on their trip to allow for smaller gatherings and a user can choose to join any field trip that isn't full.

• Users can signup for an account or simply explore the application, local storage gives users the ability to explore the app even through refresh.
• Users can search for museums near them or by any location within the US, by city, state or zipcode.
• Users can see museum deatails to help them decide what kind adventure they would like to have.
• Users can see a list of trips they are not a part of and join any trip that isn't full or create their own trips and invite others.
• 100% Lighthouse accessibility score.
• Mobile friendly views.
• Utilizes GraphQL and Apollo for a fast, easy to navigate application.
• Adopts third party libraries, such as Day.js, Google-Map-React and DatePicker.js to provide pre-tested functionality.
• Implements seperation of concerns to ensure the components used to render do just that and logic is seperated.

Learning Goals

• Learn how to work on a large development team and collaborate efficiently and successfully.
• Create a React application and self learn the set up and use GraphQL while working with a full back-end team. FE: GraphQL BE: GraphQL

Future Extentsions

• Add a restaurant option so users are able to book a field trip to a museum followed by enjoying a meal at a restaurant near-by.
• Allow users to search for trips based on friends' trips or by interest.
• Show users who is hosting each trip.

Wins

• Thoroughly seperating concerns, so that logic and rendering stayed in seperate containers and components for the most part.
• Effectively using standups to communicate needs and blockers as a group.

Challenges

• Understanding and fully implementing graphQL.
• Understanding where state should live since graphQl allowed for more fexibility in using the data.

Set Up

1. Fork and clone this repo
2. Type cd FE-FieldTripper to move into the root directory
3. Run npm install to install necessary dependencies
4. Run npm start
5. Copy local url given by running npm start and paste it to your browser
