Icon Request: Excel, PDF, Word, PPT and most common file types

I'd like to see Excel and PDF icons based on the basic file icon (icon-file)

Doesn't have anything to do with making the icons. It's that there are an infinite number of file types, and that seems like a pain to manage. But I'm listening and might just do it anyway.

The ones that most often come up for me in business are excel and pdf. I’d say, roughly 100% of the data-driven applications I have worked on in the past three years I’ve been with my current company have required export to either excel or pdf (, in addition to print, share, and email capabilities). I know what you mean about the multitude of file types, however, there do seem to be as many requests for them as there are requests for the logo of every little internet start-up. That being said, these two are the really big ones I believe should be in the set. If you’d rather not do it because of the upkeep, I understand, and can always add in the missing ones I need through icomoon. I’ve been getting a great deal of mileage out of Font-Awesome, and it’s made my life a hell of a lot easier even without pdf and excel icons, so a million thank yous for that, regardless of your decision.

Hi Dave, don't want to sound out of line here. Can you let me know if you are likely to implement this request in the next 6 weeks. If you are not, no worries, but I'll need to start investigating an alternative route. If you are, awesome, I'll stick with your excellent solution

Those would really do it for us. Most other filetypes could be images (icon-picture), zip/rar (icon-archive), video (icon-facetime-video or icon-play-icon), folders (icon-folder) and others can be just icon-file. But these are icons the user can associate with when it comes to file lists.

+1. There is a real need for these icons to be included in your solution. PDF, Excel, Word and Powerpoint are just as recognizable by user as Facebook and Twitter and should be part of a standard set of icons.

I use document specific icons all the time to visually denote what file-type the user is about to download. This helps the user understand what will happen when they click (which, of course, is one of the benefits of using Font Awesome).

I would argue that PDFs have reached a point of popularity where the visual representation of a PDF file is all that is needed to convey a link's purpose.

In fact, this is the only icon thus far that I have had to create myself for my site's use: I use your icons for all others!

These are so common icons. Why we implement social icons but deny these file type icons? I think 99% business applications will need the excel icon (so many things need to be exported to excel)

The argument that there are an infinite amount of file types doesn't hold much ground if you start putting in social icons - there are probably as many social networks as there are file types... and its only going to get worse ;)

@alexhayes Yea, and actually we don't need to implement them all. I think implement the most frequently used ones is enough. Like excel and pdf, they are used almost in 99% business applications.

It's actually crazy that you have the likes of LinkedIn, CSS 3 etc and yet no PDF, Word, or Excel icons. The latter would be required far more than the former

I used this app to load in fontawesome as well as the additional file icons I needed. I was able to simply replace fontawesome with the generated css.

I agree that supporting all file types everywhere for all programs is insanity.

But dismissing the most common filetypes (listed above... maybe a dozen in total) on the grounds that it would be impossible to support all filetypes of all programs is a bit dodgy.
