We're simplifying the metadata and removing data years
and drill years
in favor of just date
which represents the date the data was collected. This should be YYYY-MM-DD
at best, when the data can be tied to a specific day, and ideally a single YYYY
at worst - but there may be old publications where profiles are averages of multiple years. We aim to clean up these multi-year collection dates before publication, if possible.
Closing as all dates are now define. Unfortunately FOXX and GULL really are multi-year. From @MartinLuethi,
2011-2012. This was running for > 1 year, and the data extracted from the cooling curves, i.e. they are pretty accurate.
We will put the last year (2012) as the temperature year, and add the multi-year method info to the Notes column.
I see "2011-2013" for Harrington, Joel A., Humphrey, Neil F., Harper, Joel T.: Temperature distribution and thermal anomalies along a flowline of the Greenland ice sheet , Annals of Glaciology 56(70), 98–104, 2015
or "1972-1973" for Colbeck, S. C., Gow, A. J.: The Margin of the Greenland Ice Sheet at Isua , Journal of Glaciology 24(90), Cambridge University Press (CUP), 155–165, 1979 "
there are some other examples. Are the measurement dates completely unknown during the given range, or should it be read as the start and end date of drilling? Will need to document the standard used for dates.
