Is the only way to translate to extend and override at the moment or is there a better way? Thanks.

Hi , Translations are way out of scope for this project.

Maybe extending it will work. Maybe you should maintain your own fork with translation support ¯_(ツ)_/¯ . If it looks good enough, you can send a PR :)
