Working fine here on a Ultimate 1.2, Ultimate 1.3e and Ultimate 1.4e, all with fw 1.26. Even with Dolphin Dos 2 kernal and drive ROM activated the mentioned demo does work fine and without any issues at all! Seem you have something enabled/activated in your U64 config, that prevents the demo from working. No bug at all I would say.
Thanks for these informations ! So I looked at the options activated on my U64, and I found that drive B was activated. So I disabled it, and I now make the same conclusions as you: The demo works perfectly.
We can therefore assume that it is the Demo which does not really appreciate multiple readers, and that U64 is out of the question?
Most demos use speed loader that will not accept any other device on the IEC bus, as they IMHO use the ATN line for data. Some have a detection for other drives on the bus and will tell you to unplug them and other just do not work. :/
It may be an interesting feature if the external bus can be 'disconnected' in software. This is probably not too difficult to achieve, if I just add a logic switch in the FPGA that can be controlled from the configuration menu. :-)

U64 Elite V1.26 - 3.6a.
"a press space odyssey" demo does not work as expected. The first part (loader) loads, but the following parts do not flow - no loading. Tested on an emulator, works without problems. Attached the demo, if necessary.
