FishBase/SeaLifeBase presentation of GoMexSi diet data #105

@jsimons9 @dengaloo GoMexSi diet data for a given species will be published through the Diet link in the More Information section of the Species Summary page of FishBase/SeaLifebase,

fb-to-gomexsi-moreinfo

Succeeding pages would be the list of diet studies and the diet study summary.

fb-to-gomexsi-dietlist

fb-to-gomexsi-dietsummary

In each of the two succeeding pages, link to the Reference details is provided. The link to GoMexSi will be implemented in the Paper URL entry in the Reference Summary page. That link should lead to the raw data from that reference. We can keep the reference ID used by GoMexSi if that's a key to establishing the link for this.

@FIN-JBarile @Dengaloo @jhpoelen Thanks Skit for the update. That will be great. At present there are about 136 references with data uploaded into GoMexSI and with a good number in the pipeline to be uploaded. A number of these new references are not fish references - they include marine mammals, birds, sea turtles, crustaceans, and molluscs, so I assume the same procedure would be applied in SLB. As far as the link to the data, I guess the ref_ID will work. We now have both ref_IDs and data_IDs because there are times when two or more references (i.e. a thesis and several published papers) all use the same data. So the references get different ref_IDs but they all have the same data_ID. We generally use the reference with the most detailed and complete data for compiling data for GoMexSI. As the ref_ID and data_ID are linked in the database, I would assume that using the ref_ID will work just fine. Will you have time to complete the summarization of all the current references and diet data currently in GoMexSI?? How will future references and data be summarized and added to FB/SLB??

Hi to all. I was just doing some checking on the linkage between SeaLifeBase and GoMexSI. I used the blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) as a test case. After doing a search in GoMexSI for diet data for the blue crab I clicked on one of the prey and SeaLifeBase was an option, so I clicked on it and it took me to SeaLifeBase fine, but one of the prey of blue crab is other blue crabs. When I clicked on blue crab, there was no link to SeaLifeBase, and when in SeaLifeBase at the the blue crab page, there was no link back to GoMexSI in the Internet sources section. So it appears that there is still something needed to complete this. It appears that the FishBase links are fine, but I will check them again. I am working on a progress report to NOAA and will need to submit a final report by the end of November and would like to be able to report that all is working as it should. Thanks so much for all the help!!

Could you please include a step-by-step instruction, including urls to reproduce your results? I am having trouble following what things you clicked where.
