Establishing link to EOL from the Explorer #71

Currently the only link to EOL is from the query page. It would seem that it would be good to have that linkage available from the Explorer page too. I had a comment from a user who was trying to do just that and having no luck. Seems logical to have that link in there as well.

My take is that the beauty of the Explorer mode is its simplicity. When you click on a species name, you re-center the food web on that species. If clicking a name instead shows a tooltip pop-up with a link to the EOL, then we would have to have another mechanism for re-centering the food web. Do you think the convenience of the EOL link is worth the inconvenience of a more complicated interface?

If this is something you definitely do want to change, I can give you a quote for modifying the Explorer mode interface.

Good points. I would say at present leave it as it is. Does it say somewhere on the webpage how to get to EOL. Maybe to most they expect to mouse over a name and get a link. Perhaps a statement at the top of the results saying "Click on names for links to EOL, Fishbase, etc"

That's a good idea. I'll lump this minor change in with the next update I do to the website.

For wording, how about putting this at the top of the results area, right under "Returned 1 result...":

"Click on species names for links to additional resources."

That way we're not tied to specific external sites by name, in case that list changes in the future.

@reedhewitt has this been implemented?

Thanks for the reminder. I had not yet added the instructions for clicking on species names, so I just took care of it. Last I spoke with Jim, we were going to wait on the original issue (adding EOL links in the Explorer mode), so I'll mark this as closed.
