Implement an auto-save on Edit Entry

Is there any way to auto-save the edit screen every X seconds. Guessing this gets much harder, but wanted to check.

If we were to implement this, then we could:

Use GF Save and Continue functionality
Use browser Local Storage to save values in input fields. This wouldn't work for uploaded files (possible, but way more involved), but for other fields, it would work.

We would need a design, spec for how it would work.
