The calendar is interactive and the user can select dates. The act of selecting enables a button beneath the button to quickly add a new event on that date.
Furthermore, the calendar highlights dates that already exist. Hidden events (in the left pane) appear more translucent on the calendar to the right. The calendar should also display the amount of events on that day.
