What You'll Do (Job Description)

We are seeking a highly-skilled CTO or Senior Developer with experience in marketplace development or commerce solutions. This role will be tasked with making key technology decisions on behalf of the company to lead Shop Local to a nationwide rollout. You should be a strategic thinker, an effective communicator, and an expert in technology development and have a passion for local businesses.

Within this role you will work directly with all other leadership roles to act as both a technology and business expert, making decisions that will impact the current and future operations of Shop Local.

CTO/Senior Developer Responsibilities

Mapping out and setting a vision for how technology will be used in the company
Ensuring that the technology used will meet the company’s short and long term milestones
Play a key role in the decision-making process for research and development of the company and our suite of software
Creating a timeline for technology development and future features
Ensuring technology rollouts and development meet the company milestones and goals
Making executive decisions on behalf of the company's technological requirements
Acting as a mentor and leader to future developers and tech team additions
Maintain a close connection with our end customer to ensure technology solutions fit their needs
Managing technology budgets and time frames
Improving our existing MVP to ensure operational success
Adding additional features to our MVP to enhance customer experience
Develop a modern, stable and scalable technology stack and architecture which will be the foundation of the product beyond our MVP

What You Need to Be Successful (Skills)

Must Have

Proven experience in a development leadership role
5+ years of experience in technology development
Experience leading a software team
Advanced technology skillset and a demonstrated history with technology
Ability to conduct technological analyses and research
Extensive industry knowledge with an eye towards the future
Full Stack Experience

Nice to Have

Passion for small local businesses
Experience with Wordpress and Woocommerce
Experience with Ecommerce and Marketplaces

About Our company

Shop Local is a new startup with a passion for helping grow the local producers and small businesses within Canada. We’ve developed a locally focused marketplace to give local businesses the ability to compete with large big box stores and giant e-commerce competitors in the market(eBay, Amazon, Etc.). Vendors have access to inventory management, Order management, and all other basic features needed to facilitate a smooth local eCommerce experience. We’ve developed our platform to solve the business needs and pain points of our vendors and the problems faced by consumers across the country.

Our product is used by many vendors across the province and we will be looking to aggressively grow our list of vendors over the rest of 2020 and beyond. Furthermore, we’ve set our sights on a national rollout past Saskatchewan. We’ve currently developed a working in-market MVP and will be looking to scale that across the country with the assistance of a Senior Developer or CTO role.
