What You'll Do (Job Description)
We are looking for a confident and energetic self-starter, with a passion for data governance and leadership to come on board as our Team Leader, Data Governance. In this role, you will coordinate the process through which data governance is established, trusted, and matured within Conexus. You will advocate, support, and lead Conexus through the maturation of our data governance function, directly supporting our aspirations of becoming a data-driven organization. You will spend your time:
Leading the establishment, management, and maintenance of a scalable and operational data governance framework that leverages best practices, tools, and tactics in governing data ownership, management, classification, sharing, privacy and security as well as data and analytics overall
Leading and facilitating the execution of a data governance strategic plan, that leverages the above-established data governance framework and incorporates a data governance implementation roadmap that includes strategic priorities for the ongoing maturation of data governance organizationally
Defining roles and responsibilities related to data governance and ensure clear accountability for stewardship of the organization’s principal data assets
Collaborating with internal and external teams to facilitate the establishment and approval of data related policies and processes identified through the data governance strategic plan.
Defining indicators of performance and quality metrics, ensuring compliance with data-related policies, standards, regulations, roles, and responsibilities
Ensuring that data governance best practices are applied to the data environment by conducting insightful data impact assessments that identify and record data risks, as well as consulting with leaders from external teams to build remediation strategies to reduce data risks
Supporting and educating Conexus and its leadership and management teams on the ‘art of the possible’ (how data governance can support data-driven decision making
Identifying and managing risks and opportunities within the credit union’s and the members’ risk appetite
Must Have
Relevant post-secondary education in data, computer science, business, economics, operations research, engineering, statistics, data governance, or other technical disciplines
5 years’ relevant experience in data, data governance, change management, and/or project management
2 years’ relevant experience managing and leading technical resources
A certification in data governance or data management would be considered an asset (ex: DAMA Certified Data Management Professional or ICCP Data Governance & Stewardship Professional)
Relevant Experiences
Experience working in financial services, insurance, or retail industries would also be considered an asset
Extensive experience in establishing and managing data governance programs and execution of related strategic plans
