[#211] Also add custom eq and ne methods #238

These are also needed for correct comparisons, the custom hash method wasn't sufficient on its own.

With this commit, I no longer get any IntegrityErrors.

Adding this as a pull request, so you can see what I've done, but suspect you might want to do some rebasing (and remove any unnecessary commits).

This is now super-ceded by pull request #239, which has now been merged.
