Maybe you can give a doc beforehand describing the steps to follow
We're trying this out: we'll give installation instructions link to everyone in the event description and ask them to come to the session with stuff installed.
Then ask them to come to the session 15 minutes before we begin if they faced installation problems.
We begin session on time assuming everyone has installed, and a few people who haven't are helped by volunteers.
This should work for things which are easy to install. Android studio should be a straightforward install-from-gui process, right?
@peey It's straightforward for Windows, but not so straightforward when it comes to Linux. Permission issues come (I faced, can't say about anyone else) if you are installing as a non-root user.
@chirag-jn in that case, also look into installing via snap: https://snapcraft.io/android-studio
I've used other snap apps and installation process is quite straightforward, and Ubuntu 16.04+ comes with snap
pre-installed
In case this works, we could recommend linux users to use this
Probably to deal with complex installation scenarios, we need something on the lines of https://github.com/IIIT-Delhi/byld-website/projects/1#card-10684816
Maybe curate the problems faced by people in one session so that the next offering on that session has our own handpicked F.A.Q with stackoverflow links of what worked for people previously, so that people struggling in the session can quickly refer to that and see if what they are facing has already been faced by someone else and how they solved it... (/me thinks if people have google at their disposal then why wouldn't they be able to deal with installation problems that have been encountered before)
Cool, @peey @virresh. Let me know when you guys want to do the session, I'll be willing to take it.
Will discuss in upcoming Byld admin meeting which is tentatively on wednesday. Contact us if you don't hear from us by the end of the week
I can do this, but a major issue is to get Android Studio installed for everyone.
