Mistakes in scores #199

Open Mick1303 opened 2 years ago

Mick1303 commented 2 years ago

This is the thread for score discrepancies:

In 2021 tokyo Olympics you have 3 matches where tie-break scores are missing. Winner;Loser;Round;Score Pablo Carreno-Busta; Dominik Koepfer;R16;7-6(7) 6-3 Ilya Ivashka; Mikhail Kukushkin;R32;6-7(4) 6-3 6-3 Marcos Giron; Norbert Gombos,R64;7-6(4) 3-6 6-2

In Wimbledon 21 in the score for Otte-Rinderknech in R128 final set tb score is missing. Shall be 4-6,6-3,6-2,6-7(5),13-12(2).

In Wimbledon 19 in the score for Djokovic-Federer the final tb score is missing. Shall be 7-6(5),1-6,7-6(4),4-6,13-12(3)

In RG 2020 R32 Grigor Dimitrov - Carballes Baena shall say 6-1,6-3;ret. rather than 6-1,6-3,0-0.

Davis Cup WG PO 2012: BRA vs RUS: Rogerio Dutra Silva-Igor Andreev shall say 6-2,6-1;ret. rather than 6-2,6-1,0-0.

Davis Cup WG R1: GER vs ESP 2014 Feliciano Lopez- Philipp Kohlschreiber DC site says w/o rather than 0-0 (latter implies that the play started).

In RG 2020 R32 Stefanos Tsitsipas - Bedene "Ret." is missing in the score.

It will be a low priority thread, because generally I'm switching to WTA syncing. But from time to time I will revisit this one.

In RG 2019 you have 25(!) cases of wrong scores. I was checking against ATP, but I usually import tournaments from SteveGTennis and my scores were in alighnment with ATP (meaning I have 2 sources in agreement). All these incorrect scores are related to TBs. I.e you have R128 Zverev- Millman as 7-6(4),6-3,2-6,6-7(7),6-3, while ATP has it 7-6(4),6-3,2-6,6-7(5),6-3. Also R128 for Kecmanovic- Kudla, Bublik- Molleker and others. Highest round is R16 Nishikori-Paire. You have 6-2,6-7(10),6-2,6-7(10),7-5, while ATP has 6-2,6-7(8),6-2,6-7(8),7-5. Rather than list all incorrect scores I recommend just re-import this toirnament from ATP site. Mostly the scores are off by 2 points. I suspect they erroneously put tb scores of winners there and later fixed it.

Mick1303 commented 2 years ago

Oz Open 2016 is missing all TB scores in your DB - total of 64 matches. ATP site (https://www.atptour.com/en/scores/archive/australian-open/580/2016/results) has complete scores.

There are discrepancy in some scores in the ITF (wiki) version and ATP version of Canadian Open 2000. For instance Kafelnikov-Vicente ITF has 7-5,3-6,7-6(0), while ATP - 6-4,3-6,7-6(0). Novak-Dosedel ITF has 7-6(4),6-3, while ATP - 7-6(4),6-2. In this instance I'm more inclined to believe ITF/wiki, because ATP has even invalid score Grosjean-Hewitt 7-6(0),6-3(5). ITF has it 6-3,7-6(5). Also Safin-Sampras ITF has 6-4,3-6,7-6(8), while ATP - 6-4,3-6,7-6(10). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000_du_Maurier_Open_%E2%80%93_Men%27s_singles

Mick1303 commented 1 year ago

In 2001 US Open R128 Gimelstob - Tabara the score is not right. If you count sets it looks like Gimelstob lost. 4th set is reversed. Shall be 6-4

Mick1303 commented 1 year ago

in 2000 Stockholm draw QF Grosjean - Schuettler 6-7,5-7,7-6(5) the score is incorrect. The winner won less sets. Correct score is 6-1,5-7,7-6(5) (see ITF site)

Mick1303 commented 1 year ago

2007 Acapulco. Moya- Hartfield 4-6 6-1 4-6. This is incorrect, winner lost more sets. Shall be 4-6,6-1,6-4

Mick1303 commented 1 year ago

2007 Memphis. 3 matches with incomplete scores miss "retired" mark. The same for 2 matches in 2007 Marseille. Overall there is too many to list all of those on ATP site. Probably some automation shall be applied to fix this. If the match ends with irregular score in sets (like 4-1 etc.) or if the number of sets does not add up - put "retired' in the end. Maybe some of them shall have 'default" rather than "retired", but in any case you will be left with much smaller pool of discrepancies.

In 1977 Tournament of Champions WCT in the final you (and ATP) have Solomon-Rosewall with a score 4-1 in sets (6-5,6-2,2-6,6-0,6-3). I have it 5-6,6-2,2-6,6-0,6-3. [js] can't find the score reported in the newspapers, which is shocking, because apparently it was televised across the US. I guess I'll go with what TennisArchives has until we can find something more definitive.
