Save Error - Software Exists #283

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Create snapshot from with-in game.
2. After about ten seconds of the saving game indicator, the program exited.
3. Re-launching the program and pressing the "load save" button will also cause
the program to exit.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I expected the software to save the snapshot without issue, but it was
corrupted instead (I believe).

What version are you using? On GameCube or Wii?

Wii, latest build.

Are you using the official build (from the downloads page or auto-update)?

Official from Homebrew Browser.

Please provide any additional information below.

I'll grab the save file from the HDD later and upload it. I'll also try
loading it in the PC version to see if the saves are platform independent.

The game was Zelda: Link's Awakening DX. There was no obvious in-game
differences at the time of saving.

As you can see in the png, the save hit some problem and corrupted half-way
through. Also, I removed the corrupt save from the save directory and now VBA
will once again allow me to access the load menu without closing.

does this issue happen frequently, or was this just a one time occurance?

This was a one-time occurrence. I would suggest implementing safety measures
in the future. If the user saves over a current save file, the emulator should
write to a temporary location and only overwrite the file if it is verified as
non-corrupt.

yeah, not going to add any additional protection as it works fine for me
without it.
