Mother 3 - Sound issues in "goods" menu #51

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. start Mother 3
2. selecting some items, such as "Normal Shoes" or "Aquarius Bracelet"
cause the sound to get all messed up. Selecting a different item makes the
sounds go back to normal.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Normal sound when item is selected.

Does this issue occur on VBA-M
r778(http://mudlord.homebrewheaven.net/downloads/vbam_installer.exe)?
Unsure; download link to this build is dead, and can't find it anywhere
else on the net :(

What version of the product are you using?
VBA-GX r117

Please provide any additional information below.

I don't recall this happening in versions from about a month ago (last time
I really played Mother 3), but it might have been apparent there. I don't
seem to have this issue in any other game. There are also some sound
issues when battles are won (slight rhythmic skipping of audio), but this
may or may not be related.

I believe I've replicated the issue on the latest release of VBA-M, r781, I
think it
is. It only happens sometimes, though. I believe it might have something to
do with
the audio code - switching to directsound on the PC fixed the issue, but so did
buffering the audio by a few additional frames on the regular audio output (not
dsound).

I've also figured out that part of the garbles sound has to do with the
background
music speeding up when those items are selected; selecting another item makes
the
background music go back to its normal speed.

This occurs in the equip menu, also, but only sometimes. Going into "Goods"
and then
"Equip" makes it happen more often than just going to the "Equip" menu.

Attached is a Mother 3 save file, in chapter 4, I believe. go to "Goods" then
check
out "Equip" and choose one of the bracelets or the Battle Memory under Key
Items in
"Goods."

Very strange, this is very noticeable. Not sure what the issue is here, but
I'll
take a look.

Issue is in VBA-M Audio core, Blargg will look at it when he gets around to it.
