Advantages: far easier to write and maintain. And IMHO, easier to view and use since an html file and web browser are lighter weight and almost always open on a users computer (as opposed to a PDF file and PDF viewer).

Doing this under BERD time.

Much of my thinking on R package dev is based on Karl Broman's guide, as well as Hadleys book Rpackages

So, BiocStyle vignettes are recommended and use of \verbatim is discouraged. Charlotte's experience here is informative.

Gist is this was time well spent. Go with BiocStyle for all Bioc pkgs.
